Graduation Day

The adventures of Carol Brown, representing Norwegian Cruise Line on a 6-month mission on the open sea to train the crew, explore new ports, seek new friends and experiences, and to boldly go where she has not gone before.

Carol’s log: Cruise Date: May 6, 2011 (Miami)

Today is our last day in Miami. It is the last day that we’ll be together as a group. I realize that I’ll miss these new friends. We’ve bonded quickly. We’ve exchanged email address and sent friend requests on Facebook.

The training today is packed with helpful information. Some of our more senior colleagues play key roles in sharing the benefits of their knowledge and experience and we all feel smarter for being in the room. We get a more complete picture of our roles and responsibilities and feel totally supported by everyone in the company. We are heading out with all that we need to be successful as Training Specialists.

The graduation ceremony is filled with applause, certificates, food, laughter, and surprises. Dinner following graduation is delicious. I eat Mahi Mahi with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Yes, I’m still trying to eat my greens though I do eat a triple layer chocolate cake for dessert. The photos don’t do it justice! It is a perfect send-off.

I head up to finish packing and climb into bed. My phone rings and it is Marsha calling from Toronto. It is so nice to hear a voice from home. We chat about this that and the other thing and she laughs at me when I tell her that I am really going to Alaska. She snickers “I guess we should have packed some warm clothes.” If I could have reached through the phone we all know what would have happened to dear Marsha! I ask her to check on my boys and we say good-bye. I sleep but not well. I’m excited, and nervous.

The voyage continues…
